Coming from Afar, Returning to My Hometown
He speaks fluent standard Mandarin and performs Tai Chi with the grace of flowing clouds. He has a name reminiscent of a chivalrous hero from Jin Yong's novels. This is Yang Guo (THONGKAEW PITIPAT), an outstanding graduate of the MBA program at the School of Business Administration, and the 2023 “Moving Campus” figure at Chongqing Technology and Business University.
Yang Guo was born into a Thai Chinese family. Influenced by his family, he developed a strong interest in Chinese culture from a young age and yearned to one day step onto this enchanting land to experience the cultural treasures left by his ancestors. Four years ago, he crossed the ocean to study Chinese at Chongqing Technology and Business University. With a diligent attitude and a hardworking spirit, he progressed from zero knowledge of Chinese to successfully passing the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) Level 4 in just two years, scoring an impressive 270 points. Out of love for the school and a desire for further study, he applied to the MBA program at the School of Business Administration, earning the Mayor’s Scholarship for Foreign Students from the Chongqing Municipal Government due to his excellent qualifications and academic achievements. During his graduate studies, he was diligent and outstanding, achieving scores above 90 in all subjects.
Yang Guo is passionate about Chinese martial arts and classic literature. He represented Chongqing Technology and Business University, winning second place in the Men’s Tai Chi category at the 2022 Chongqing University Student Martial Arts Competition, and second place in the International Student Group at the 8th “Chinese Classics Recitation and Writing Competition.” He is also skilled in fencing, having achieved second place in the U17+ Men’s Sabre category at the International Fencing City League and fifth place in the Men’s Sabre Individual category at the 6th Chongqing Open Fencing Tournament.
In addition to his studies, Yang Guo actively contributes to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Thailand. He is the only foreign member of the university’s International Cooperation and Exchange Volunteer Association and has frequently served as an assistant and translator for Sino-Thai cultural exchange projects organized by the school. He shares Chinese stories and voices with Thai students and his friends abroad based on his personal experiences. During the pandemic, he deeply understood the significance of the school’s preventive measures and actively shared his feelings about cooperating with the pandemic response in China with his family and friends abroad, allowing more people to understand the real China. A video featuring him titled “A Day in the Life of Yang Guo” depicts the vibrant life of international students at the school, becoming an important material for online international exchange projects in the past three years, inspiring overseas students to aspire to study business in China.
To spread the seeds of the Chinese language and help the world better understand China, Yang Guo also volunteered as a Chinese teacher, teaching children in Togo, Africa, Chinese for free, planting the seeds of "knowing, befriending, and loving China" in their hearts.
Yang Guo stated that his four years of study at Chongqing Technology and Business University have strengthened his ties to China and allowed him to deeply feel the unwavering belief of the Chinese people in building a community with a shared future for mankind. He genuinely experienced the warmth, safety, and greatness of China, which has become his second home. After graduation, Yang Guo chose to continue contributing to the economic exchanges between the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and Thailand, supporting the Belt and Road Initiative and building a bridge of friendship between China and Thailand.
